Air inlet
The air inlet is the external opening through which ambient air enters the draw and cooling system. Number, area and position determine maximum airflow; blockage or incoming liquid can impair draw activation and coil cooling.
01
Classification
Air inlet describes part of the airflow path – the route incoming air takes from the intake to the mouthpiece. The cross-section, position and adjustability of that route noticeably change draw resistance and aerosol temperature. In the editorial structure of this glossary, Air inlet is one of 119 entries under Parts & technology, described there deliberately without any purchase recommendation.
02
Practical relevance
Because Air inlet controls the ratio of air to aerosol, even a small adjustment changes perceived flavour far more than switching liquid does. Draw style and device choice are therefore closely linked. The practical value of Air inlet shows less at purchase than afterwards – with spare parts, warranty questions and eventual return.
03
Handling it safely
Do not block or widen Air inlet beyond the adjustment the manufacturer provides. Blocked openings increase the load on coil and battery, while very wide settings can produce hot aerosol and leaking liquid. When in doubt about Air inlet, take the conservative option: better to interrupt use than to accept a risk.

Not to be confused with
Air inlet is most often confused with Draw resistance, occasionally also with Airflow – even though the three answer different questions. This differentiation is deliberately descriptive and contains no recommendation as to which variant suits you.

Frequently asked questions
- What does Air inlet stand for in vaping?
- In short, Air inlet describes a clearly delimited property within Parts & technology. The word says nothing about whether a product suits you – that is settled by the manual, the labelling and the applicable rules.
- What mistakes happen most often with Air inlet?
- The commonest mistake with Air inlet is transferring experience to another model. What works on one device may already fall outside approval on a device that merely looks identical.
- Is Air inlet the same as Airflow control?
- No. Air inlet and Airflow control describe different aspects within Parts & technology and are not interchangeable. Both entries sit side by side in this glossary so the boundary stays visible.
